Ravensheugh log cabin, Tyninghame
That was a cracking gig tonight – we were playing at a wedding ceilidh at Ravensheugh log cabin at Tyninghamne. It’s in a superb location on the East Lothian coast, overlooking the Forth Estuary, the Bass Rock and the Isle of May. The cabin itself is fairly small, but it has huge big windows overlooking the sea.

.
When we arrived at the venue, we were greeted by the groom. He didn’t explain quite how he had persuaded his new wife to allow him to use her boat as a bar for the evening!

.
As we started playing, the sun was setting over the Forth. It was beautiful! Apologies to the band for my absence while I nipped out to take this shot. For our next Tyninghame gig, I’m taking a proper camera, just in case we are treated to a repeat performance!
.
We had a band ‘first’ tonight. In 17 years of playing, we’ve never experienced a newly varnished dance floor before. Unfortunately this one was so newly varnished, we were increasingly aware of that “ssshhhtk sssshhtk ssssshtk” sound as people lifted their feet from its sticky surface. It added an interesting percussive effect to the dances
Ceilidhs galore
We’ve had a quiet couple of months, but now it’s May (and the sun’s out) we’re heading into the summer wedding season. We’ve got plenty of ceilidhs booked for the coming months, including several at Tyninghame log cabin near Dunbar, which is always a lovely venue for a celebration.

We still have a few dates available over the summer – you can check our availability on our online band calendar if you are thinking of booking the band.
Birthday party ceilidhs
We has a ball playing a short ceilidh for a birthday celebration at the Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh last night. It’s a lovely venue – and it was great fun playing for a group who were enjoying themselves so much!

If you’d like to book Da Hooley ceilidh band for a party or for any other event, give us a call!
Edinburgh ceilidh
We seem to have a night off…so it must be time to post a photo :

Happy New year from Da Hooley Ceilidh Band
Happy New Year
Wishing all our ceilidh-going dancers, previous and future clients, family and friends a fantastic 2012. We’ve had a great year with the band, and will be seeing it out in style with a sold out gig in the centre of Edinburgh tonight.
Hope to see you at the next ceilidh!
Hogmanay ceilidh in Edinburgh
We’ll be playing for a ceilidh in the centre of Edinburgh for Hogmanay. We’ll even let you nip out for a neb at the fireworks at midnight, as long as you promise to come back for more dancing after. We’re looking forward to another fun night!

Edinburgh ceilidh
We’re looking forward to getting out for an Edinburgh ceilidh at St Bride’s next Saturday. We’ll be playing for the Scots Music Group, for the last of their monthly ceilidhs for this year. Don’t hang about if you want to get tickets…it usually sells out!
You can buy tickets online from the Scots Music Group website or by phone from the St Bride’s Centre

See you on the dance floor!
New site launched
That’s it, the new website is officially launched. Phew!
And tonight we’re off to play for the annual Stuart’s Melville Pipe Band fundraising ceilidh. I’ve lost count of exactly how many years we’ve been playing for the school, but we love doing it. One of the highlights is getting to hear the pipe band play in the break, and watching the amazing manoeuvres of the drumming section. They always have some seriously impressive coordination going on!
Getting closer
That’s one more blip sorted out, so it won’t be too much longer now til we can officially launch the new look website – how exciting!
The new Da Hooley website is coming
I’ve been working on redesigning the band website. This is a temporary version. There’s still some more blurb to be added, but we’re getting there!
I’d be interested in any feedback.
